About Curriculum
#First Year
In the first year, students will learn the basic theories and working methods involved in the Concentration in Art Theory and Practice. The subjects of artistic expression, theory and practice will be discussed in cross-section from the perspective of artistic representation theory, while taking into consideration the related genres and issues involved. Also, people active on the cutting edge of today’s art world will be invited as instructors to help give students the orientation needed to recognize and appreciate the status of the contemporary arts with a greater sense of reality.
#Second Year
In the latter half of the second year, the majors will join seminars and gradually begin the roughly 3-year process of working toward their graduation theses or graduation works/projects. Students wishing to create works while studying the Concentration in Art Theory and Practice can elect to take “Art Practice” courses to gain practical experience in areas like creating a portfolio and how to build working concepts. At the same time, students can receive instruction in creating works through courses in the departments of other majors.
#Third Year
As a further development of the theory and practical experience gained in the first two years, there will be seminars on contemporary thought and political issues underlying art today with the aim of expanding their scope of theoretical thought and heightening capabilities in practical application of ideas. Also, a “Discourse Practice” course will be offered to strengthen student’s writing skills through practice, while working toward the publication of an essay collection. An “Artistic Representation ID Seminar” will also be available with an interdisciplinary group of instructors to enable students to study things they have not had an opportunity to learn prior to this.
#Fourth Year
As the culmination of this 4-year major, students will pursue work on their graduation theses, graduation works or graduation research projects. Graduation candidates can write theses on subjects of theory or history, they can create works or they can plan exhibitions or design and implement workshops. Through these applications of the theories and practice based on those theories they have learned in this major, each graduate will be acquiring valuable experience to prepare them for active roles in society.
