「変態」「奇妙な」等の意味の語から、従来のゲイ理論に対する批判をモチーフとして生まれた概念。「同性愛者（ゲイ）」というアイデンティティを持つことが、 他のセクシャルマイノリティに対する排除や差別を生み出してしまう 「性」の揺らぎや流動性、グラデーション性を無視して枠にはめ込み、その可塑性を切り捨ててしまう 同性愛差別の原因である「同性愛・異性愛」の二項対立図式を再生産してしまう。 などの理由で好ましくないものであるとし、アイデンティティ（自己同一性、自己中心性）の枠をゆるやかに捉える立場やそれらについて考える理論。
